“There are many ways to look at or analyze any given song. My song ‘Numbers for Days’ could be considered through all sorts of lenses or filters, through combinations of political, religious, environmental, cultural, or social experiences that are bound to change each of us over time.”
Armed with abilities on guitar and keyboards, peter has a wide-ranging baritone that has been compared to both Seal and David Bowie. On that note, peter covers Bowie’s “Panic in Detriot,” the song about revolutionaries and Detroit’s civil unrest in 1967. peter’s version fuses the urban hard rock subtext with a pulsating pop-electronica backdrop, paying tribute to Bowie’s Outside/drum’n’bass era.
peter says, “Bowie was touring America, most likely on tour buses, when he wrote ‘Panic.’ If you can imagine, there would be a lot to take in and think about as he went from one venue to another to include the backdrop of everything happening in the early 70s. The song also seems to tell a story, so it can be interpreted. For example, a heist-gone-wrong story, a chase…”
In 2016, peter hired Johnny J. Blair (producer for Davy Jones/Monkees and others) to produce and be a musical sideman. Also on board is electronic percussionist Daniel Berkman. The results are this EP, COUNTDOWN.
“I've always been chasing after that feeling that you get when you hear a song--and it really affects how you feel in that moment--so much so that you really have to stop to re-group or re-assess in order to decide if you are going to back to what you were doing. Sometimes, there is no going back.
"'Countdown' is dedicated to the loving memory of my mother Ollie Woodruff aka 'Ms. Ollie' (1940- 2017), my first and strongest supporter. Very special thanks to Johnny J. Blair, Jackie Ryle, Ph.D. and Joyce Day Meuse. Thank you for your skills, guidance and encouragement."
